We all want to feel that something, or someone is there to protect us. But we often forget that we are the first people to have our own backs, and that we’re strong enough to do so.
To remind ourselves, we will externalise some of our unique characteristics and translate them into our very own animal posse to call upon in times of need.
The Activity: Draw a gang of animals that represent you
Step 1: Which animals are you?
Think of three animals that represent you. One that represents you mentally, one that embodies you physically, and one that exemplifies you emotionally. Take a moment to think about each of these characteristics. How are you unique - mentally, physically, emotionally? What are your specific strengths and weaknesses, the things that stick out? Now think of which animals share some of these traits.
Step 2: Draw your animal gang
Draw your animal posse. You want to make sure to draw them in their powerpose. You could draw them as a totem, standing on top of each other, like superheroes, or in a group, like they are about to drop the hottest album of the year. Either way, when you look at them, you want to feel like you’re in the presence of a bunch of badasses.
Step 3: Summon the Posse
Think about the strengths of each of the animals you picked. You might have chosen an animal, because it represents a negative personality trait. But what positive forces come with this? Which other powers can your posse bring to the table? Think of those strengths whenever you feel a bit stuck and in need of backup.
My Example
I chose the turtle to present me physically. Originally, because I was once (as an insecure teenager) told I look like a turtle. I guess because of that not-so-defined neckline I’ve always been a bit self-conscious of.
The animal that best represents my emotional state is the tasmanian devil. Pretty cute most of the time, but can go a bit cray cray if you don’t watch out. And by that I don’t mean that I’m erratic, but that my emotions can go a bit wild if I’m not careful.
Lastly, I picked the eagle to embody me mentally. I would like to think I’m pretty observant and not the dullest tool in the shed.
Together, my posse is defnitely not one to mess with. They come with great physical strength, endurance, intelligence, and overall badassitude. I’ll remind myself of that, the next time I feel a bit lost.
Assemble!
