It seems that the era of glorifying “being busy” is coming to an end, and I’m here for it. Being Busy from early morning until deep into the night is not a good thing. It causes mental and physical stress, and often makes us neglect the things that are actually good for us, like enough sleep, good relationships or our hobbies.
However, the unfortunate truth of the matter is that many of us simply do have a lot on our plates. We have jobs, kids, groceries, appointments, chores, taxes, laundry, and then more laundry, all to take care of in a single day.
It’s hard to take a chunk out of the limited time we do have to dedicate to what we deem non-essentials, like sitting down to get creative.
We feel like that there’s not enough time to do it right, so we end up not doing it at all.
However, as one of my favourite mantras goes, done is better than perfect. So this week, let’s see if we can find a creative micro-moment in our otherwise busy schedules.
The Activity: A creative micro-moment
Step 1
Take 30 seconds to draw something.
Step 2
That’s it. That’s the prompt. :)
Repeat step 1 if you find another small bit of time somewhere. Enjoying the benefits of getting creative doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot of time or produce elaborate works of art.
My Example
I’ve been travelling with my toddler for the last 5 days. We’ve taken planes and trains, and went to see many of our wonderful friends. There were work meetings, restaurants, parties, walks, and many other things on our schedule. There were some stressful times, but also a lot of happy memories.
One thing that there definitely wasn’t, was time for myself to sit down and draw, or send out this newsletter on time.
Which is why today I enjoyed this little colouring moment with my daughter on the train.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take a picture of the previous page where I tried to give the woman an oil-slick hair colouring job, with all purples, blues, greens, and yellows.
Definitely my creative highlight of the week, and much much better than nothing at all.
Have a wonderful week, and hopefully a creative moment or two.
