Hi, and welcome (back) to The Stress Less Pencil. Together, we create art to make us feel good, not to make it look good. All weekly prompts are designed for total beginners and experienced artists alike, so if you’re new, make sure to subscribe and join us!
Wednesday is Valentine's Day. The day we're supposed to tell the people we care about how much we love them, get them a card, treat them to something special, turn up the romance.
I personally think that we should do these things as much as we can, no matter what day of the year it is. Flowers are always nice, and please don't feel like you need to wait for February to take me out on a nice dinner.
But even if we managed to turn up the romance to 365 days a year, there's always one person we forget to shower in words of love and appreciation. Ourselves.
So this Valentine's, let's take the opportunity to show ourselves some love.
The Activity: Make yourself a Valentine's Card
Step 1 - Make the Card
Take a piece of paper or cardboard and fold it into a card. Then decorate it with typical Valentine's symbols - hearts, roses, chocolates, champagne, a teddybear crying a single happy tear.
Don't hold back on the kitsch and the cheese. Add some sparkle!
Step 2 - Words of love
Now that you've completed decorating this thing of beauty, open it up and write yourself a love note. As if you were writing it for someone else, note down all the reasons you love yourself. No matter how big or small. Is it your cheeky smile? The fact that you manage to get up and go to work every morning? That you've achieved something despite the obstacles and difficulties? I, for example, love you very much for taking the time to read this, and for making some space for creativity in your life.
As in the previous step, don't hold back on the kitsch and the cheese 💖
Keep your Valentine's card close by this week, and read it, whenever you're feeling a bit low. And don't forget to get yourself some nice chocolates and flowers.
My Example
I'm very often in self-critique mode. Not in a toxic way, just always looking for things to improve and making sure everything on the to-do list gets done. So this was a nice exercise for me to take a moment and give myself some credit for all the things I can be proud of.
Have a great week my friends.
Lots of love,
Lorena
Such a beautiful idea, thank you! 🥹💕
