I started sketching people on the metros of Paris after a very fun sketching meetup in 2015. I had such fun and seldom got “caught”. Once a young boy watched and told me I was good. I then gave him my sketchbook to draw in and he drew his mother’s face. Then the next stop came and they left! It’s a very special memory!

That sounds great! Yes, I think most people are more curious and interested rather than put off when they see you sketching away.
I agree. My husbands is a photographer, and he’s a bit jealous that people are so much more open to a sketch than a photograph.
